The knives on this type of mower are called flails and are mounted on an axle that runs horizontal to the ground, the cutter shaft. Due to the rapid rotation of the cutter shaft stones and foreign objects can be thrown out at high speeds. For this reason the cutter shaft is enclosed by a thick-walled steel housing which is designed to serve as a protection device. The flail mowing technology is used everywhere where scrubs and hedges uneven surfaces are to be mowed, as is the case for example in the extensive landscaping. Here, as in other special applications, other mowing methods are time-consuming and risky.
