Flailing

Flailing is a special type of mowing. The special feature with this type of mowing is that the clippings are chopped by a rotating shaft. The shaft is equipped with knives called flails, which rotate opposite the mower's direction of travel. The flails are normally shaped like a Y or a T. The advantage of flails is that its rugged construction makes it possible for the flail mower to chop through branches and pieces of wood. Therefore, these mowers are particularly suitable for areas with irregular and dense vegetation. This is for example the case in meadows, which are rarely mowed and at irregular intervals. As with mulching the clippings are left on the mowed area. During flailing is a real risk that stones or other hard objects will be thrown out of the mower. Therefore, special caution is to be used, for example when mowing near roads or residential areas and the prescribed safety distance must be complied with!
