Knife holder

The cutting systems from ESM are designed to facilitate knife changes and the associated knife holder disassembly. If a knife holder adjustment needs to be carried out during general care and maintenance measures, this must be done in accordance with the assembly instructions. The type of knife holder mounted depends on the mowing system design. Before the knife holder can be removed or adjusted, it is necessary to clean the cutting system of all dirt and plant fibres. After removal of the blade holder and the mower blade, dirt that has accumulated between the blades and bar must also be removed. Cleaning should take place after each mowing, only clean components allow optimum cutting knife operation. If the knife holder or another cutter bar component is used without be cleaned prior to use, the cutting result can become worse and this can reduce the service life until the next service. As with any work on a cutting system, the greatest caution and care must be taken when releasing the knife holder! In addition to removing and cleaning the cutting system, a periodic guide clearance adjustment is necessary. How often and how this should be done depends on the mower type and the installed blade holders. The blade holders may be fixed one or more clamping screws. Other types of fasteners for knife holders are hinged guides or the hinged rocker arm. It is important to ensure that the play between friction plates and mowing knives is set correctly. The basic settings must be checked when a new mower knife is used and each time the fixing screws are loosened. To properly adjust the knife guide the knife holder design has to be taken into account. A general rule for adjusting the mower blades is that the mower blades are able to move back and forth freely in the guides. This test can be done by hand, but it is important to ensure that the cutter head is removed!
