Mowing with work horses

Mowing with workhorses is preferred on environmentally oriented farms. Here for example horse-drawn mowing systems are used to mow lawns gently for feed production. The background for such special applications with horse-drawn cutting systems is usually an increased interest in conservation. While purely commercially oriented farms strive to make maximum yields by mowing with high-performance motorized mowers, mowing with work horses is oriented on the needs of the animals and plants. When mowing with workhorses a contribution to nature conservation and biodiversity is made through the gentle and natural use of agricultural land. A part of this increased awareness of environmental issues includes the use of correspondingly gentle cutting systems. Double knife cutting systems from ESM, which are specially adapted for mowing with work horses, meet the specific requirements of such a mowing system. This includes a particularly smooth-cutting system that cleanly and effectively separates the clippings and converts the horse's output efficiently. ESM double knife mowing systems designed according to the shearing principle, are the ideal work equipment in this respect. A slight pull is sufficient to move the cutter and to achieve a clean cut. The oscillating system that is equipped with a PTO drive or a very small auxiliary motor reached a high cutting performance in spite of discontinuous drive, as is natural when mowing with work horses. By design the double knife cutting system can not clog. An elementary functional advantage with no alternative, oscillating technology in this area of application! The mowing action is excellent even for relatively large working widths - up to 2.75 meters - and rapid mowing speeds and guarantees humane utilization of working horses without overstraining them. The clean cut promotes plant growth and also guarantees optimum green fodder production. Due to the low or non-existent motorisation, mowing with workhorses is associated with a significantly lower noise. This is an advantage for the horses, wildlife in the mowed area and also for the farmer. Another environmental benefit is the minimal or non-existent fuel consumption of the ESM double knife cutting systems. The low maintenance requirements and professional and reliable ESM technology make mowing with work horses an interesting alternative to motorized mowing.
