Zürn Harvesting GmbH & Co. KG is a German manufacturer of cutting systems and auxiliary equipment for combine harvesters and forage harvesters. The company headquarters is in Schoental-Westernhausen in Baden-Württemberg. The cutting system production as well as the field testing take place in their own factories in Ravenstein Merchingen and in Waldenburg. Zürn was founded as a smithy in 1885; For over 25 years they have specialized in the production of cutting systems and auxiliary equipment. Zürn has been an authorized John Deere dealer since 1963. The product line includes mowing attachment systems for rapeseed and sunflower, direct cutting systems, high-performance draper cutting systems and cutter transport trolleys. One focus of Zürn cutting system production is on the design of high quality rapeseed cutters. For the farmer mowing rapeseed is a particular challenge, since the harvest ripe rapeseed field differs significantly in its growth from a grain field. Rapeseed plants form a dense interwoven mowing area, which can not be mowed with a conventional combine. There is also the risk that the sensitive rapeseed pods will burst open upon contact with the cutting unit. The crop, the oil seed, can fall out and be lost. To avoid such vibration loss, Zürn has developed special Rapeseed cutting systems. Such cutting systems for rapeseed have additional, vertically mounted harvester heads which cut the densely interwoven rapeseed carpet, in addition to horizontal mowing. Only through such a mowing process is it possible to harvest the rapeseed plant trouble-free and with low vibration loss. The vertical rapeseed cutters can be driven mechanically or electrically. Extremely important is a slim design and a low knife vibration. The ESM rapeseed harvester head knives used by Zürn are best suited for this demanding task. The robust construction and high cutting capacity of the ESM rapeseed knives enables uninterrupted and effective harvesting process with low losses and a correspondingly high yield. Zürn mowing technology for rapeseed also benefits from the special lightweight design of the ESM rapeseed knives, which has favourable effects on energy consumption and the weight of the entire mower. Mounting and exchanging of ESM rapeseed cutting knives is quite simple and can be done very quickly.
